MUMBAI, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Two bodies of Indian navy sailors found in sank submarine INS Sindhurakshak Friday morning, which was destroyed by explosion and major fire two days ago, local news channel CNN-IBN reported.

"It is confirmed that we have found two bodies," a navy spokesman said, adding that more details would be known a little later.

After more than 60 hours of rescue, the divers found two bodies in the submarine. But the rescue work is very slow as the tremendous heat from the explosions and fire has fused the submarine's hatches. It took hours for divers to open the main hatch on Wednesday.

The divers are trying to use heavy-duty pumps to raise the sub, which has suffered extensive damage.

Indian navy on Thursday released the names of the 18 navy personnel trapped and were feared dead, including 3 officers and 15 sailors. The families of the trapped navy personnel rushed to Mumbai.

The personnel remained trapped after a Russian-made Indian Navy submarine caught fire, exploded and sank on Wednesday in a major marine base in downtown Mumbai.

In his Independence Day address on Thursday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed "deep regret" over the accident, which the government has described as the "greatest tragedy in recent times."
