Bai Jie nominated for women Player of the Year by AFC

Chinese defender Bai Jie was one of the three contenders for the Women Player of the Year as the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced the nominations for its best year awards in Kuala Lumpur.

Chinese defender Bai Jie was one of the three contenders for the Women Player of the Year as the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced the nominations for its best year awards in Kuala Lumpur.

South Korea's Ri Kum-suk and Japan's Mio Otani will vie for the women's title with Bai.

In the list released on Tuesday, Thailand's Therdsak Chaiman will be up against two European league players Iran's Mehdi Mahdivikia and Uzbekistan's Maksim Shatsikh for the Asia's player of the year.

Mahdavikia plays club soccer for Hamburg and helped it rank fourth in Germany's first division, while Shaskikh scored for Dynamo Kiev in its recent upset win over Arsenal in the Champions League.

Iraqi Younis Mahmoud, who played a key role in Iraq's successesin Asian Cup qualifying games this year, goes up against Japanese striker Yoshito Okubo and Ismail Mattar of the United Arab Emirates for the Young Player of the Year award.
