Facts & figures: China's 11 Golden Weeks

According to the statistics released by the National Tourism Administration, since the three major holidays, Spring Festival, May Day and National Day, in China were first prolonged to seven days in 1999, some 610 millionpeople have hit the road, generating 257.28 billion yuan (31 billion US dollars) in revenue for the travel industry over the past 11 golden weeks.

According to the statistics released by the National Tourism Administration, since the three major holidays, Spring Festival, May Day and National Day, in China were first prolonged to seven days in 1999, some 610 millionpeople have hit the road, generating 257.28 billion yuan (31 billion US dollars) in revenue for the travel industry over the past 11 golden weeks.

Detailed figures are as follows:

1999 National Day Golden Week -- tourists: 28 million; tourism revenue: 14.1 billion yuan ( 1.70 billion US dollars).

2000 Spring Festival Golden Week -- tourists: 20 million; tourism revenue: 16.3 billion yuan (1.96 billion US dollars).

2000 May Day Golden Week -- tourists : 46 million; tourism revenue: 18.1 billion yuan (2.18 billion US dollars).

2000 National Day Golden Week -- tourists: 59.8 million; tourism revenue: 23 billion yuan (2.77 billion US dollars).

2001 Spring Festival Golden Week -- tourists: 44.96 million; tourism revenue: 19.8 billion yuan (2.39 billion US dollars).

2001 May Day Golden Week -- tourists: 73.76 million; tourism revenue: 28.8 billion yuan (3.47 billion US dollars).

2001 National Day Golden Week -- tourists: 63.97 million; tourism revenue: 25 billion yuan (3.01 billion US dollars).

2002 Spring Festival Golden Week -- tourists: 51.58 million; tourism revenue: 22.8 billion yuan (2.75 billion US dollars).

2002 May Day Golden Week -- tourists: 87.1 million; tourism revenue: 33.1 billion yuan (3.99 billion US dollars).

2002 National Day Golden Week -- tourists: 80.71 million; tourism revenue: 30.6 billion yuan (3.69 billion US dollars).

2003 Spring Festival Golden Week -- tourists: 59.47 million; tourism revenue: 25.7 billion yuan (3.10 billion US dollars).
