A liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) terminal jointly owned by the British oil giant BP and its Chinese partner, the Ningbo East China LPG Co., Ltd., will open soon in Ningbo, a port city in east China's Zhejiang Province.

The terminal, with an investment of 96.5 million U.S. dollars and a capacity to handle one million tons of LPG, has just passed inspection by Chinese authorities.

Construction of the terminal began in October 1998.

The terminal will supply LPG to Ningbo and surrounding regions, giving cleaner energy and increasing east China's energy reserves, official sources say.

BP is also building a 3.6 billion dollar liquefied natural gas(LNG) terminal in Shenzhen City in south China's Guangdong Province.

The terminal, the first of its kind in China, will be able to supply three million tons of LNG a year when it is fully operational in 2005.
