Kirirom 1 Hydropower Station Rehabilitation Inaugurated in Cambodia

The rehabilitation project of Kirirom 1 hydropower station, 120 kilometers southwest of Phnom Penh, was inaugurated and started generation of electricity Wednesday in Kirirom.

The rehabilitation project of Kirirom 1 hydropower station, 120 kilometers southwest of Phnom Penh, was inaugurated and started generation of electricity Wednesday in Kirirom.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that the Chinese company completed the rehabilitation of the hydropower plant one year ahead of time, it is of great significance to the Cambodian economic development.

He thanked the Chinese government for its help and support to this important project, which involved Chinese investment of 20 million U.S. dollars and constructed by the China Electric Power Technology Import and Export Corporation(CETIC), subsidiary company of the State Power Corporation of China.

The prime minister believed that the development of hydropower station can promote the development of Cambodia's economy, including tourism, agriculture and fisheries.

He hoped that the Chinese company will continue to assist Cambodia in developing hydropower stations, such as Kirirom 3 and Kirirom 4 hydropower stations, and other hydropower stations in Cambodia.

This project in the model of BOT (Built-Operate-Transfer) was started construction in April, 2001, with a total installed capacity of 12 megawatts (MW).

He Gong, executive vice president of State Power Corporation ofChina, and Chinese Ambassador Ning Fukui, attended the inauguration ceremony of the project.
