Japan, China Should Keep Friendship for Generations to Come: Li Peng

Japanese people and Chinese people should maintain friendship for generations to come, said China's top legislator Li Peng Thursday in Tokyo.

Japanese people and Chinese people should maintain friendship for generations to come, said China's top legislator Li Peng Thursday in Tokyo.

Li, chairman of China's National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, made the remarks at a reception hosted by the Chinese Ambassador to Japan Wu Dawei.

Li Peng said his visit, at the invitation of two houses of Japanese Diet, will strengthen the cooperation and exchanges between NPC and Diet and enhance the friendship between the two peoples.

The two sides should cherish the bilateral relationship, which consumed tremendous efforts made by many people of the two countries, Li said, adding that the development of bilateral ties has become the common aspiration of the two peoples.

Japanese House of Representatives Speaker Tamisuke Watanki and Japan's House of Councillors President Yutaka Inoue were among the 1,000 guests present at the reception.

Watanki said exchanges between NPC and Diet plays an important role to the better understanding between the two peoples. He also spoke highly of Li's visit to Japan, saying that the visit will play an important role for the promotion and development of Japanese-Chinese relationship.

Inoue said that Li's visit will write a new chapter in the bilateral relations. He wished Li's visit to crown a complete success.

Officials and celebrities from the Japanese Diet, government, political parties, economic organizations, representatives of Chinese companies in Japan and students studying in Japan attended the reception.
