More Hydropower Stations to Be Built in Cambodia: PM

Cambodia welcomes the China Electric Power Technology Import and Export Corporation (CEPTC) to build more hydropower stations in the country after itscompletion of Kirirom I Hydropower Rehabilitation Project, Prime Minister Hun Sen said here Monday.

Cambodia welcomes the China Electric Power Technology Import and Export Corporation (CEPTC) to build more hydropower stations in the country after itscompletion of Kirirom I Hydropower Rehabilitation Project, Prime Minister Hun Sen said here Monday.

The premier Monday morning said this when inspecting the project undertaken by CEPTC.

Seventy percent of the project now has been finished, which will be completed a year ahead of time.

The Kirirom area, about 120 kilometers southwest of Phnom Penh,would become a development zone after the completion of the Kirirom I Hydropower Station Rehabilitation Project, then many investment would flow into the area, Hun Sen said.

He asked the relevant departments to coordinate the mine clearing with the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) in Kompong Speu and Koh Kong provinces, southwestern Cambodia, so as to clearthe way for the construction of hydropower stations there by the Chinese company.

If the Kirirom III Hydropower station is completed, its generated electricity would supply to the port city of Sihanoukville, about 240 kilometers southwest of Phnom Penh, thus promoting the development of the city into a major industry area of the country.
