Every 7:30 p.m. between September 18 and 22, ten Peking opera classic plays will be performed at Xiangjiang Theater of the Peking Opera Protection and Inheritance Center of Hunan (POPICH) in Changsha City. The shows are included in a mentoring program that Peking opera masters impart skills to young artists. It is a rare opportunity to showcase the lineup and strength of Hunan’s Peking opera actors.

The mentoring program is POPICH’s key project in 2019. Renowned Peking opera performers such as Cao Jianwen, Ling Ke, Xi Zhonglu, Bai Yuling, Wang Mei, Zhang Ping, Lv Zhaofang, Wang Mengyun, Shang Changrong, and Xiao Runnian are invited to Changsha to tutor young performers to act out a number of classic plays. This helps improve the professional standards of Hunan’s Peking opera performers and preserve the traditions of classic plays. (http://enghunan.gov.cn)
