Ren Zhiqiang, a retired real-estate mogul who had over 37 million followers on Chinese microblogging platform Sina Weibo, was given a year probation of his Communist Party membership for violating the party’s political discipline, according to a statement published on a local government website.
Ren was the chairman of Beijing Huayuan Property Co., Ltd. before he retired in October, 2014. According to the statement posted online on Monday, the party committee in Beijing’s Xicheng District said Ren is being put on probation for publishing “erroneous views” on social media that contradict CPC’s core principles and policies and thereby constitute a “serious violation of party political discipline.”
Ren’s Weibo account was closed in February 2016.
