The city of Rome turned 2769 on April 21 after its legendary foundation by Romulus in 753 BC, and the capital celebrated its birthday with performers taking part in a parade on April 24, 2016.

People celebrated the Birth of Rome with parades in costume, featuring more than 2,000 gladiators, senators, vestal virgins and priestesses. They re-enacted the deeds of the great ancient Roman Empire, along the ancient Roman ruins of the Colosseum, Circus Maximus, Roman Forum and Venice Square.

Known as Natale di Roma, the events lasted until April 24, Sunday.
