By Shen Chen (People's Daily Online)    09:01, April 21, 2016

A giant five meter long giant oarfish was captured off coast in southeast ‪‎China's Taiwan on April 19. A fisherman was seen chopping up the fish on street to get it ready to be cooked.

Found in all temperate to tropical oceans yet rarely seen, the giant oarfish is the longest bony fish alive. The oarfish is thought to inhabit the epipelagic to mesopelagic ocean layers, ranging from 1,000 meters and is rarely seen on the surface, not to mention encountered or captured by human. It is believed that the giant oarfish caught was sent to the surface by the two earthquakes occurred off Taiwan coast on the early morning of April 19, couple hours before the fish was caught.
