A 2-year-old toddler accidentally fell into a narrow crack when playing beside a well in southwest China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Tuesday.

The 5-meter-deep crack was right next to the well. Since the gap was too narrow, and it was risky if large equipment was used to get the toddler out, fire fighters decided to dig manually to avoid harming the child. No other equipment was used except for hand drills, which were used occasionally throughout the rescue operation. It took two hours for the fire fighters, together with the help of the kid’s father and relatives, to rescue the toddler, who was eventually taken out safe and sound.
