The subsidiary hospital of Nantong University on Monday released the latest information of their patients who had been injected with unqualified perfluoropropane gas produced by a Tianjin-based biomedical company, thepaper.cn reported.

The hospital said a total of 26 patients were injected with the gas during the surgery and most of them still have different degrees of reactions, even after almost one year recovery. The 12 victims were diagnosed as being half-blind.

The report said one patient has filed a lawsuit against the hospital, but at the same time, the hospital also sued the biomedical company, Tianjin Jingming New Technological Development Co. Ltd .

On June 29th last year, the hospital found that 26 of their patients had negative side effects after being injected with the same gas after eye surgeries. After testing the gas in animal experiment, the hospital confirmed the gas they purchased from a Tianjin biomedical company caused the damage of their patients' eyes. They also reported the issues to a local food and drug watchdog later.

One month later, China's food and drug administration published a further investigation into this issue saying Two hospitals located in Beijing and Jiangsu Province allegedly utilized the gas and two batches including up to 8,632 boxes of gas produced by the Tianjin-based company has been recalled.
