This series of photos by Los Angeles photographer Brett Stanley precisely captured the dream-like and graceful beauty of underwater pole dancing.

In order to take the photos, Stanley worked with the dancers closely for a few weeks. He taught them how to hold breath and what poses look best when submerged. Due to the relative lack of gravity in the water, the dancers had to make a few adjustments to their general routines. They had to recreate some of their poses and wear waterproof makeup and bikinis.

Stanley is hoping to work with other acrobatic performers in the future to expand this series of underwater photoshoots.
