PHNOM PENH, Dec. 21 -- A forum on Chinese television series kicked off here on Monday, aimed to promote Chinese culture and people-to-people relations between the two countries.

Jointly organized by the Cambodia's state-run television, TVK, and the Guangxi People's Broadcasting Station, the forum was attended by Cambodian officials from the Ministries of Information and Culture, and Chinese officials from the Guangxi People's Broadcasting Station.

"The forum is an important platform to exchange views on cultural cooperation between Cambodia and China," Cambodian Information Minister Khieu Kanharith said at the opening ceremony.

Since last year, the Guangxi People's Broadcasting Station has provided two Chinese TV series -- one is the Cat's Eye Boy Bao Dada cartoon series and the other is the Three Kingdoms series -- to the TVK for screening.

"The Three Kingdoms is a popular story in Cambodia," he said.

Culture Secretary of State Som Sokun said Chinese TV series had not only received admiration from Cambodian audience, but also served as a bridge to promote cultural exchanges between the two countries.

"Screening Chinese TV series on the TVK will contribute to promoting cultural ties and people-to-people relations between the two countries," he said.

Cheng Hongbo, director of political office at the Chinese Embassy to Cambodia, said the embassy fully supported the promotion of Chinese TV series in Cambodia, saying that it would contribute to enhancing cultural ties.

He said through Chinese TV series, Cambodian audience would learn more about Chinese history, culture, traditions and customs.
