Foxconn, the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer, has put $4.4 billion into building a Low Temperature Poly Silicon (LTPS) TFT-LCD assembly line in its Zhengzhou plant, located in Henan Province in central China, local media reported Monday.
The project will be helmed by Ying Hui Machine Co., an affiliated company of Foxconn. Foxconn Chairman Terry Gou also presented at the contract signing ceremony on Nov 7.
The LTPS display is typically the most expensive single component in Apple's iOS devices. The new assembly line is reported by local media to focus on the manufacture of LTPS iPhone screens. Foxconn declined to confirm the information on Monday.
According to Ying Hui Co, the Zhengzhou plant is expected to produce nearly 20,000 LCD screens per month.
