A report by the U.S. congressional U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission depicted a “horrible picture” when China has a strong military and becomes a rival of the U.S. The report reviews China’s missile, space arms, island disputes and again hypes “China’s threat”.
Bill Gertz, reporter of The Washington Free Beacon, published an article on Oct. 14 saying the report concludes U.S.-China security relations continued to deteriorate in 2015 and China’s aggressive behavior in the South China Sea and its unremitting cyber-espionage against the United States were the key drivers of growing distrust.
The commission was found in 2001 to advise the U.S. Congress on the economic and national security implications of the U.S.-China economic and trade relationship. Since its members mainly come from those areas which have suffered losses in trade to China, the commission often has prejudiced and unfriendly attitudes to China and is regarded as a “troublemaker” to Sino-U.S. relations.
The commission has been hyping China’s military threat and advised the U.S. to take a hard-line attitude to China. It also advised the U.S. to make trouble for China through its allies in the Asian-Pacific region.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hong Lei once said the report of the commission was full of Cold War thinking and political bias. China maintains a path of peaceful development and pursues a non-aggression policy.
