A black bear suddenly broke into the teaching building and was shot dead by police in a middle school in Raohe County, in northeast China's Heilongjiang province Monday morning.

According to staff, the school took immediate emergency measures after discovering the bear. A fire-fighting lift truck arrived to transfer the students and teachers to the safety zone.

After receiving the alarm, the local police, firefighters and forest police rushed to the scene. At first, they intended to tranquilize the bear with a tranquiliser, but as the bear hid in a corner, the operation failed. When the bear began to attack people, the police finally shot the black bear dead in order to ensure the personnel safety.

According to local people, the bear may have entered the campus through a corn field near the school.
