During the past seven days alone of the National Day holiday (from Oct 1 to 7), the China National Tourism Administration, introduced visitor quotas for the first time, controling the number of visits to famous tourist attractions during peak hours - a measure that generated a number of positive effects. The 125 perennially popular tourist attractions monitored by the China National Tourism Administration received 29,621,700 visitors, bringing in a ticket revenue of 1.6 billion yuan. Unlike in previous years, the number of visitors to these famous tourist attractions did not rise sharply and suddenly in the seven days of this ‘Golden Week’ holiday. Moreover, the China National Tourism Administration did not receive any reports of accidents involving tourist safety during this National Day holiday week. Efforts had been made to ensure safety at sites across the country.

Meanwhile, the number of mainland visitors to foreign countries is also expected to have witnessed a Golden Week boom. According to the Korea Tourism Organization, the number of visitors from the Chinese mainland saw an increase of 30 percent. The data given by the Japanese consulate shows that in Guangzhou, the number of visas issued to Chinese visitors to Japan saw a year-on-year increase of 40 percent in September. There were about one million visitor arrivals to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region from Oct 1 to 6, up 3.26 percent on the same period last year. The number of Chinese mainlanders to Macau Special Administrative Region was nearly 800,000 from Oct 1 to 6, seeing an increase of 6.3 percent compared to the same period last year. According to the Taiwan Straits Tourism Association, there were over 90,000 visitors from the mainland to Taiwan, a growth of more than 20 percent over the same period last year.
