During Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, more than 1.5 million Japanese soldiers were killed or wounded in China, and at the end of the war, a total of 1.28 million Japanese soldiers surrendered to China, accounting for half of the Japanese troops overseas, said a military expert on August 31.

Peng Yulong, research fellow with the Academy of Military Science of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, said this at a press conference commemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression on August 31.

When answering question raised by the reporters, Peng said that Chinese battlefield is the main one against Japanese aggression. The US' use of atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August and the Soviet Union getting involved in the WWII both accelerated the destruction of Japanese Fascism to some extent, but these are external factors.

Cooperation between KMT (Kuomintang) and CPC (Community Party of China), and the nationwide and long-lasting anti-Japanese war in China are the decisive force in defeating the Japanese fascists.

The number of China's military and civilian casualties during the war totaled more than 35 million including 4 million soldiers at least. Of course, the US army in the Pacific front made a significant contribution to the war against fascism, it wiped out a total of 1.093 million Japanese soldiers and captured around 100,000. The number of US casualties reached 1.15 million. In the Far East, the Soviets wiped out about 700,000 Japanese soldiers and captured 609,000, while the number of casualties of the Soviet Union reached 32,000.
