China sent invitations to 51 countries for the Victory Day ceremony in Beijing next month. Fourty-nine accepted except for Japan and the Philippines, according to insiders.
None of the officials from the Japanese Embassy and consulates in China will attend the events, Japan’s Jiji Press reported on Aug 25.
One day ago, the Cabinet of Japan just announced that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will not travel to China for the event.
Some reports from Japanese media emphasized that many countries made their decision mostly based on their countries’ current relationship with China.
Jiji Press also said Abe is corresponding with the leaders of the U.S. and the U.K.
