ABU DHABI, May 31 -- Two people who were infected with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, or MERS, in Abu Dhabi have now tested negative for the virus and were discharged from hospital, state news agency WAM reported on Sunday.
The two cases had been tested positive and kept in isolation at hospital as a precautionary measure, the health authorities of the UAE's emirate were quoted as saying.
MERS, known as coronavirus, is a viral respiratory illness which could be fatal.
The UAE Health Ministry stressed that it is closely monitoring the situation to ensure the health and safety of citizens.
In Qatar, a 73-year-old man died of coronavirus on Friday, the Gulf state's first fatality from the virus.
