Chen Long shows strong form on day three of Australian Badminton Open

SYDNEY, May 28-- Chen Long showed why he is the best in the world after dispatching Hu Yun in quick successive games at the Australian Badminton Open in Sydney on Thursday.

Chen took an early lead in the first game which Hu couldn't recover from as it continued to build.

In the second, Hu kept pace early, however Chen outclassed his fellow countryman, teaching him how to shuttle. Chen took the match 21-11, 21-8 in 30 minutes.

World No. 9 Viktor Axelson is continuing his dream run after defeating China's Lin Dan on Wednesday night. Axelson defeated China's Xue Song 19-21, 21-18, 14-21.

The un-seeded Chinese shuttler Tian Houwei beat current world No. 4 Kidambi Srikanth of India to progress to the quarter finals 18-21, 21-17, 21-13.

In the women's draw, China's hopes for first place are still alive as No. 1 seed Li Xuerui outclassed Mitani Minatsu 21-16, 21- 14 in 39 minutes.

Although all the seeded pairs in the mixed doubles made it to round 2, China's pairing of Lu Kai/Huang Yaqiong fell to South Koreans Choi Solgyu/Eom Hye Won 21-17, 21-23, 21-19.

Top seeds Xu Chen/Ma Jin moved to the quarter finals after defeating Shin Bae Choel/Chae Yoo Jung 21-17, 19-21, 21-19.

In a meeting of former world champions, China's Fu Haifeng/ Zhang Nan made easy work of Markis Kido/Agripinna Prima Rahmanto Putra of Indonesia 21-13, 21-13.
