Visiting Chinese Premier Li Keqiang took a ride on the new subway Line 4 with Rio de Janeiro Governor Luiz Fernando de Souza in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on May 20.

He enjoyed the ride as the train started, accelerated, cruised and pulled into the station. He also talked with the driver, who told the premier that the China-built trains have advanced technology, run smoothly, and are able to carry more passengers.

Li told Brazilian officials who accompanied him during the train ride that China has quality technology and powerful equipment manufacturing capacity in railroad transport, and that China-built products are cost-effective and adaptable to various markets.

The Rio subway opened in 1979, with most subway trains designed and manufactured in the 1970s. In 2009, China CNR Corporation won the tender for new subway trains for the city in competition with French, Spanish and Korean manufacturers.

The Chinese-built trains are both environmentally friendly and comfortable. They are sleek in design, and comfortable and energy efficient in operation. They are specially equipped with powerful air-conditioning systems for use in Rio de Janeiro, which often experiences high temperatures. And since Brazilians are bigger than Chinese physically, all the passenger seats have been widened.

The customers are satisfied with the customized services provided by Chinese companies. During the 2014 World Cup, the urban railway service ranked third in tourist satisfaction, next only to the natural landscape of Brazil and Brazilian's hospitality.

The subway company in the Brazilian megacity has ordered 604 subway and commuter trains from China CNR Corporation. Some 90 trains which the Chinese manufacturers will deliver soon may be used for subway lines for the Olympics.

Premier Li asked Chinese enterprises to sharpen the edge of their equipment manufacturing and bring the world more quality products which constantly meet market demand.

China is keen on further cooperation with Brazil in infrastructure construction and equipment manufacturing, which would benefit both sides, Li said.
