China Urges Myanmar to Investigate Stray Fire
China's Foreign Ministry says it is awaiting a reply from Myanmar's government over the recent stray fire incident.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei says Myanmar's government promised to launch an investigation and will inform China of the results in a timely fashion following the completion of the investigation.
"We've lodged a solemn representation to the Myanmar's side over the incident and required a thorough investigation and urged them to make a reply in a responsible manner."
Hong Lei also urges Myanmar's government to take all necessary measures to prevent a repeat occurrence and restore order in the border area as early as possible.
Five people were wounded as two shells fired from Myanmar hit a restaurant in Lincang City, Yunnan province last Thursday.
Military officials in Myanmar earlier blamed Kokang rebels for the bombardment, which they said was aimed to drive a wedge between China and Myanmar.
