Xi'an is one of the major scientific and technological bases of national defense. In recent years, the municipal government has been trying to build up the military and civilian integrated industry and to strengthen cooperation between the two industries.
There are now in the Xi'an High-tech Zone 298 manufacturing companies with a military origin. Eight of the eleven largest defense groups in the country have invested in the Xi'an High-tech Zone, covering fields including shipbuilding, the aerospace and nuclear weapons. Tianhe Defense, China's first private defense contractor, has already successfully got listed.
Thanks to new major projects, the integration of military and civilian enterprises in the Xi'an High-tech Zone has been further deepened. American companies including Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation, Parker Aerospace and Honeywell have established joint ventures with the AVIC in Xi'an , which offer services for Airbus and Boeing. The establishment of the North Schlumberger Oilfield Technology (Xian) Co. makes the Xi'an High-tech Zone one of the strongest areas with regard to the services in the field of energy technology.
In the future, the Xi'an High-tech Zone will still create a database for military and commercial enterprises to improve services for the Integration of military and civilian industries.
