NEW DELHI, May 18 -- Indian media have been highlighting and praising the fruitful visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to China.

On Monday, the Times of India said that as one of the major outcomes of the visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the economic cooperation and people-to-people ties have seen clear forward movement.

"Investment come in railways and industrial parks, new consulates will be opened in Chengdu and Chennai, initiatives to encourage province-to-province and business-to-business relations will get a fillip through Indian e-visas," said Manoj Joshi, a fellow of the Observer Research Foundation in an article published by the paper.

The Hindu said in its editorial that according to the statement issued after talks between Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister Modi, both countries have iterated the principles of " equity and common but differentiated responsibilities" to address issues of climate change and reiterated support for the UNFCCC and its Kyoto Protocal.

The Indian Express said in its editorial that more pragmatic engagement has marked the agreement reached during the visit.

The two sides have expressed willingness "to explore the prospects for a more productive relationship on the basis of deeper economic engagement, greater contact between the peoples of the two countries and the rediscovery of shared cultural roots," said the paper.

Most of the local dailies Saturday published on front page the picture of "selfie" between Prime Minister Modi and his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang, saying that this marked a warming moment for the two countries.

"Standing still no option, have to move ahead: PM," said Indian Express in its front page headline. "India, China to set up task force to address trade gap," it said in another story's headline.

"Modi engaged in selfie diplomacy in China," said the daily Hindustan Times.

"China cheers for Modi after e-visa surprise at university," said Times of India in its headline of a report on the visit, after Modi said India would issue e-visa for Chinese tourists.

"States free to scale the Great Wall: PM," said the front page headline of The Hindu daily, in reference to the launching of a state-province level dialogue forum between the two countries.

The Indian media Sunday said the two countries' business leaders have reached a large amount of agreements to carry out cooperation ranging from power, renewable energy, infrastructure and steel worth 22 billion U.S. dollars.

This signaled a great progress in the economic and investment cooperation between the two countries, said local media, saying that Indian heavyweight companies like Adani group, Bharti Airtel, and Welspun were among those who signed agreements, besides Bharat Forge and Infosys.

"Equity, trust have been built (with China)," the Business Standard daily quoted Bharat Forge executive director Amit Kalyani as saying, while Infosys CEO Vishal Silla said it would set up a new campus in Shanghai.
