Winners of Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence Friendship Award praise Sino-Pakistani friendship

On April .20, accompanied by Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain, Chinese President Xi Jinping conferred the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence Friendship Award on Pakistani individuals and groups, commending the unremitting contribution they have made to promoting the friendship between the two countries. The ceremony was held in Islamabad, capital of Pakistan.

Lieutenant colonel Mohammed Naveed Khan, master of health administration, has 23 years of professional experience in health care.

A medical team of 27 Pakistani military doctors led by Naveed participated in the Wenchuan earthquake relief effort in 2008. Over 15 days, the medical team treated many chronic victims and more than 1500 other patients. On its departure from the quake-hit area the medical team donated to a local hospital the medical equipment, generators, and medicine they had brought on two military transport planes.   

Chinese memorial park guardian Ali Ahmad Jan has been voluntarily supervising the park for 37 years. In the 1970s and 1980s, a great number of Chinese workers were sent to Pakistan. They helped build the Karakoram Highway, also known as the Sino-Pakistani Friendship Highway. Many of them lost their lives and were laid to rest in the Chinese memorial park in in the suburb of Gilgit, Pakistan.

According to Pervez Shah, Chairman of the All Pakistan China Friendship Association, it was a great honor to work hard to deepen the friendship between China and Pakistan and win the award during Xi's visit to Pakistan. In 1978, this association, a non-government organization, was founded by a former Pakistani ambassador to China.

Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Chairman of the Senate standing Committee on Defense, has been closely tied to China since he was a teenager. In 2009, he founded the Pakistan-China Institute, a think tank in Pakistan. He also launched the website Nihao-Salam and started the magazine Youlin in Pakistan to promote China's achievements, culture and customs. The launch of the English edition of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China was held by the Pakistan-China Institute, China's State Council Information Office and China's Embassy to Pakistan. The Pakistan-China Institute is committed to translating Xi's book in Urdu.

Masood Khan was Pakistan's former ambassador to China from 2008 to 2012 and has been appointed as the Director General of the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad. On receiving the award, he expressed how excited he was at meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping and extended his gratitude for the Chinese government's affirmation of his efforts to enhance the friendship between the two countries. He also said that this award is a personal honor and shows recognition for the efforts of those diplomats committed to enhancing Sino-Pakistani ties.
