SUZHOU, China, April 29 -- Number two seeds Jiang Tianyi and Lee Ho Ching of Chinese Hongkong crashed out of the fourth round of the mixed doubles, losing 4-1 to Steffen Mengel and Petrissa Solja of Germanyat the Qoros 2015 World Table Tennis Championships on Wednesday.
The 14th seeds Mengel and Solja lost the first game and fought hard to take the second and third in tight contests that seemed to break their opponents' will.
The Germans capitalised on their lead to win the fourth and fifth games easily and completed the upset (7-11, 13-11, 14-12, 11-5, 11-7) to secure their best-ever world championship mixed doubles results.
After their tribulations in the early rounds, it seems that Yan An and Wu Yang from China finally hit form. They took their game to another level and their fourth round opponents Janos Jakab and Szandra Pergel from Hungary could not compete with them.
Yan and Wu dropped the third game but won the match 4-1.
"We cooperated better today, we felt relaxed and made full preparation. That's why we performed well," Yan said.
Elsewhere, defending champions Kim Hyok Bong and Kim Jong of DPR Korea continued their trouble-free march onwards with a 4-0 victory over their Dutch opponents.
Kim/Kim's compatriots Pak Sin Hyok and Kim Hye Song also reached the mixed doubles quarterfinals.
Last eight also includes transnational pair of Chinese Xu Xin and South Korean Yang Haeun, Chinese Hongkong's 10th seeds Wong Chun Ting/Doo Hoi Kem and Japanese 20th seeds Maharu Yoshimura/Kasumi Ishikawa.
