LONDON, April 28 -- China's Ding Junhui suffered a surprise setback at the quarterfinals of the snooker World Championship in Sheffield on Monday, losing the opening eight frames to England's Judd Trump.
Ding, the third seed, managed to win two in the closing stage of the first session, trailing 2-6 into the night's seconds session at the Crucible Theatre.
Trump is aiming to reach the final for the first time since 2011, when he beat Ding 17-15 in the semis.
The 28-year-old Ding, who is hoping to reach the final for the first time, had fought back from 0-5 and 1-5 behind in the first two rounds Mark Davies and John Higgins respectively.
Anthony McGill and Shaun Murphy are locked at 4-4 after the opening session in the day's another match.
