Airstrikes continue against IS targets in Syria, Iraq

WASHINGTON, April 26 -- U.S. and partner-nation military forces continued to conduct airstrikes against the Islamic State (IS) forces in Syria and Iraq over the past two days, U.S. Defense Department said on Sunday.

Fighter and bomber aircraft conducted a total of 11 airstrikes in Syria and 27 airstrikes in Iraq, the department said in a statement.

Airstrikes in Syria's Al Hasakah and Kobani destroyed five IS tactical units, nine IS fighting positions, three IS boat, an IS improvised explosive device cache and an IS mortar position, the statement said.

Meanwhile, airstrikes in Iraq's Bayji, Mosul, Sinjia, Kirkuk, Fallujah and Ramadi destroyed over 10 IS fighting positions and 15 tactical units, 13 IS vehicles, seven IS heavy machine guns and five IS buildings, it added.

Coalition nations conducting airstrikes in Iraq include the United States, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Coalition nations conducting airstrikes in Syria include the United States, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
