BEIJING, April 23 -- China's forestry sector surged between 2001-2014 with a stunning annual growth rate of 22 percent, official data showed.
The output value of the sector amounted to more than 4 trillion yuan (around 650 billion U.S. dollars) last year contributed by more than a million enterprises and hundreds of millions of farmers, Sun Jian, an official of the State Forestry Administration (SFA), said on Thursday.
"Forestry's blossoming means a lot to economic transformation," Sun said, citing improved farmers' income and a robust forestry-related tertiary sector.
The SFA plans to hold 5 forestry-related trade fairs with local governments to further stimulate the sector.
