BEIJING, Apr.20(People's Daily Online)-China and Britain have been directing greater attention to pragmatic cooperation in recent years. China-British cooperation has entered a stage of comprehensive, multi-level and extensive development and can look forward to the prospect of a promising future.
Both sides has agreed to unite their efforts to share mutual support for each other's major concerns, sustain the momentum of high-level exchanges, maintain close contacts, and enhance cooperation.
Chinese leaders attach great importance to Sino-British cooperation. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang wrapped up a fruitful visit to Britain in June, 2014 which witnessed the signing of a series of cooperation deals worth 30 billion U.S. dollars. Li also expressed his hope that China and Britain will expand two-way trade to reach a target of 100 billion U.S. dollars in 2015.
Britain has been recognized as a desirable destination for Chinese investors who want to tap deeper into the European market. Easier U.K. visa access was welcomed from Chinese enterprises, as it makes it easier for more Chinese enterprises to enter the British market. To date, the British power sector, including nuclear energy and infrastructure construction, has seen vast investment from Chinese enterprises. Chinese enterprises are also showing their interest in investment in sector including hi-tech, higher-education, and others. The Shenzhen-headquartered Huawei Technologies has joined with Robert Bosch Venture Capital GmbH of Germany and Xilinx Inc from the United States to invest a total of $26.2 million into XMOS Ltd, a Bristol-based semi-conductor company and a leader in intelligent multi-core microcontrollers.
China-Britain business relations have been making good progress, as a new momentum builds up driven by the Chinese private sector's investment in Britain. Huawei, Jili, Wanda and Sunpower have acquired British enterprises or invested in Britain in recent years.
With a diversified economy, a world-class higher education sector, a stable political environment and a sound judicial system, investment in Britain offers a golden opportunity for Chinese investors.
According to Lord Livingston of Parkhead, Britain's Minister for Trade & Investment, China Investment UK 2015 serves as an important information platform and will introduce more investment opportunities in Britain to Chinese investors. Chinese investment in UK, one of the most open economies in the world, has hit new record highs, while Britain welcomes Chinese investment and anticipates further economic cooperation between the two countries.
