The construction of a bamboo composite pressure pipe project with total investment of 2 billion yuan started in Economic Development Zone in Nanzhang county in central China's Hubei province on March 19, 2015. The project uses bamboo as material, to manufacture the strong biomass pipes with good compression performance through mechanical winding way, which is the first case in Hubei.

After the project is fully operational, it can produce 200,000 tons of pipes a year, with the annual output value of 5 billion yuan. It can also revitalize the bamboo resources of 40 hectares in the region. Bamboo composite manufacturing project is a forestry innovative patented technology project supported by six ministries including the National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Environmental Protection. Bamboo composite pressure pipe has better performance than steel, plastic pipe and cement pipe in compression, insulation, corrosion resistance. It has also such advantages as lighter weight, environmentally friendly renewable, longer life and lower production cost, which will have a broad prospect in application in the future.
