BEIJING, March 12 -- Thursday marks the 10th World Kidney Day. With a theme of 'Kidney Health for All', the day aims to raise awareness about preventing kidney diseases.
In China, around 130 million adults suffer from chronic kidney disease. Dialysis is the only treatment for people with renal failure, unless they can get a kidney transplant. And every year the number of patients who receive dialysis is increasing at a speed of 5 percent to 8 percent.
Doctors say it is important to monitor blood pressure and blood sugar levels as a basic health parameter of kidney function. It is also important that people get a balanced intake of fluids.
