BEIJING, March 10 -- Beijing police have detained Chinese actor Wang Xuebing, star of last year's Golden Bear winning film, for suspected drug offense, authorities confirmed on Tuesday afternoon.

Wang, 43, who portrayed the murderer in "Black Coal, Thin Ice", was caught by police together with a female magazine art director on Monday, an insider told Xinhua.

Wang was an anti-drug ambassador for Beijing in 2006.

His character in "Black Coal, Thin Ice" dismembered his victims and scattered their body parts via coal shipments.

Wang's investigation followed the arrest of another Chinese actor on Monday.

Zhang Bo, well known in is role as a policeman in TV series, was caught in an apartment of Chaoyang District after a tip-off. Zhang tested positive for crystal methamphetamine and more than ten grams of the drug were seized in the apartment.

Further investigation is under way.

China has recently detained a number of celebrities, including movie and television stars on drug and prostitution charges.

Last month, a Beijing court sentenced popular singer Yin Xiangjie to a 7-month prison term for possession of drugs.

Beijing Trade Association for Performances said last September it would not hire any stars involved in drug abuse or prostitution.
