Chinese and Canadian authorities have begun issuing travel visas with lengths of up to 10 years.
The move is meant to make life more convenient for people from both countries who travel to the respective countries for business, travel or study.
"This measure will help China and Canada to promote personnel exchanges, push forward the development of friendly ties and deepen cooperation in various fields. It will benefit people from both countries," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei.
The new arrangement follows on the heels of China and the United States agreeing on a new multiple-entry visa policy in November.
Canada and the US also share loose travel restrictions, including limited access for travel to Canada for Chinese citizens who have a visa for the United States.
