
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Walt Disney Pictures's 3D computer-animated superhero action comedy "Big Hero 6" won the Oscar award for best animated feature film on Sunday night at the 87th annual Academy Awards Ceremony held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
Based on a Marvel comic about a team of superheroes, the film was directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams. It is their first time to win the Academy Award.
The four other animated films nominated for the award were "The Boxtrolls," "How to Train Your Dragon 2," "Song of the Sea" and "The Tale of the Princess Kaguya."
The winner has achieved both critical and commercial success, grossing over 546 million dollar in worldwide box office while getting nominations for the Annie Award for Best Animated Feature, the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film, and the BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film, beside winning the Oscar.
Worldwide, it is the 31st highest-grossing animated film of all time and the second highest-grossing animated film of 2014, behind "How to Train Your Dragon 2," according to media reports.
