TOKYO, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese men under a foreign trainee program were attacked by a group of men with knives late Sunday in Ibaraki Prefecture north of Tokyo, which left one dead and the other injured, the Chinese Embassy confirmed on Monday.

Chinese embassy officials said they had sent personnel to the cite of the incident for on-the-spot investigation.

According to Japan's Kyodo News Agency, One Chinese national surnamed Sun, 33, was confirmed dead after being sent to hospital, while the other, a 32-year-old trainee whose name wasn't immediately available, was slashed in the shoulder.

They were attacked by a group of men, apparently non-Japanese at around 9:50 p.m. local time near their working farm in Hokota, Ibaraki Prefecture. The wounded man was quoted as saying that they were riding bicycles to return home at that time.

A kitchen knife with bloodstains was found near the scene, the police said. They have started to investigate the case.
