China Youth Daily conducted a recent survey among 1802 young people, which suggests that two thirds of Chinese youth plan to take a graduation trip.

"We are all working hard on our graduation thesis," said Dai Jiaoyang, a senior student. "At the same time, we are planning a trip to mark our college life. In the past four years, we have made many friends, so we ought to do something special together when we graduate."

So which are the favorite destinations for graduates? According to the survey, the top three are east China (30.5 percent), southwest China (24.4 percent) and south China (19 percent); next come north China (14 percent), Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan (13 percent), central China (11.7 percent), northwest China (11.3 percent), northeast China (7 percent) and going abroad (4.2 percent).

In terms of companions, almost sixty percent of young people choose to travel with their classmates or friends. 13.7 percent want to travel alone, 11.5 percent will go with their families, 9.3 percent choose to travel with loved ones and 5.2 percent will join tourist groups.

In terms of time, 47.5 percent of the respondents think 3 to 6 days are most suitable, and 38.5 percent of them favor a 7 to 14 days trip.

A long trip means higher costs. 35.2 percent of the respondents plan to spend between 1000 and 3000 yuan. 39 percent plan to spend between 3000 and 5000 yuan. 16.1 percent plan to spend more than 5000 yuan, and only 9.8 percent will spend less than 1000 yuan.

Dai Jiaoyang and his friends ultimately decided they would experience the culture of Taiwan for their graduation trip. They will stay at guesthouses in Taiwan, which is both economical and convenient for communication with local people.
