GUANGZHOU, Nov. 18 -- One of China's former top political advisors in Shantou city in southern Guangdong Province has been prosecuted for intentional injury, said the provincial procuratorate on Tuesday.
Lai Yicheng, 69, former chairman of the Shantou City committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, told police he beat a woman to the point where she lost consciousness on July 2.
An ambulance rushed to the scene, but the woman died despite doctors' efforts.
Lai was arrested on July 17 for intentional injury. He was expelled from the Party on Nov. 14, according to the provincial disciplinary watchdog.
