CANBERRA, Nov. 18 -- A renowned scientist, a popular destination among Chinese tourists and a well-known orchestra were winners of the inaugural Australia-China Achievement Awards, the Australian Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) said on Tuesday.
The winners of the Australia-China Achievement Awards were announced by Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott on Monday during Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit, DFAT said in a press release.
Professor Max Lu from the University of Queensland is the winner in education. He was presented the award for "exemplary leadership in advancing research and education relationship between Australia and China."
In arts, Sydney Symphony Orchestra is the winner "for showcasing Australian arts and creativity to Chinese audiences and promoting Australia and Sydney as leading global cultural destinations."
Bridestowe Estate in Tasmania was given the award in entrepreneurship for pro-active and innovative market entry into China and promoting Tasmania as a destination for Chinese tourists.
"The awards showcase the leadership and creativity of Australian organizations and people in building stronger economic, cultural and education connections between Australia and China," according to the press release.
