BEIJING, Nov. 17 -- With Chinese President Xi Jinping starting a state visit to Australia on Monday, the two countries are set to further consolidate their partnership in an all-round way.
During the visit, Xi and Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott will witness together the signing of a series of agreements in various fields, which will underpin bilateral comprehensive cooperation for the next stage.
Sticking to the principles of mutual respect, equality and win-win cooperation, China and Australia brought bilateral ties to a new height in 2013 by forging a strategic partnership.
The two sides should continue to respect each other, accommodate differences, enhance mutual trust and understanding, and properly address their divergences.
As China and Australia are two countries with different cultural traditions, political systems and stages of development, their peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation could serve as an example for the international community.
Over 30 intergovernmental consultation mechanisms have been established between the two countries since they forged diplomatic relations 42 years ago. China is now Australia's largest trading partner, export market and source of imports.
With strong internal strength for growth, great strategic significance and a solid foundation, China-Australia cooperation will enjoy an even brighter prospect.
Both as important economies in the Asia-Pacific, China is now comprehensively deepen reform and opening wider to the outside world, while Australia is speeding up its economic restructuring and industrial upgrading.
The two countries are highly complementary not only in traditional fields such as energy and resources, but also in new areas of growth such as finance, infrastructure and agriculture.
Given that, it is highly desirable that they conclude their bilateral free trade talks and set up a free trade area as soon as possible. That will facilitate the flow of products and services into each other's markets and increase common economic interests of the two countries.
On international and regional issues, China and Australia have seen an expanding range of common concerns and consensus, including fighting terrorism, combating organized crime and promoting peace and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific.
The two partners are also increasing military exchanges and joint exercises to raise the ability to address security challenges.
Xi's visit presents a historic opportunity to encourage the two countries to further tap into their cooperation potential and put China-Australia ties on the fast track.
