FUZHOU, China, Nov. 13  -- Chen Long, top seed in the men's singles, and Wang Shixian, second seed in the women's singles, both encountered unexpected frustration on Thursday and failed to advance to quarterfinals in 2014 Badminton China Open in Fuzhou.

Chen Long, No. 2 in world rankings, won the first set in the match with Marc Zwiebler from Germany. Marc fought for the turning points in the second set and made the game tied by the 25-23 win. Chen lost the momentum in the third set and could not save back with the result of 19-21.

"I felt my impatience in the second set when Marc was trying to chase the score," said Chen. "I want to get points but he had very good defense. I had too many games recently and I feel a bit tired."

As women's singles top seed Li Xuerui claimed to withdraw the Fuzhou event before it started, Wang Shixian, the second seed and also the second in world ranking, became the leading shuttler of Chinese groups.

However, Wang was devastatingly defeated by Japanese talented youngster Akane Yamaguchi, who is just 18 years old and ranked the 35th in the world. Wang only get 24 points in the entire two sets.

"I did not fight positively after losing the first set," said Wang. "I really need to step as quickly as possible while playing against her but I did not move fast enough."

Chinese female pair of Bao Yixin and Tang Jinhua, top seed in the women's doubles, chose to leave the court while they were playing with South Korean Chang Ye Na/Yoo Hae. The referee told Xinhua that Tang was injured while the score was 10-11 and decided to quit the game.

China's badminton super star Lin Dan advanced to the next round by defeating Jan O Jorgensen, 19-21, 21-18, 21-15.
