The northern gate of the Palace Museum is crammed with tourists on the second day of the Chinese National Day holidays in Beijing, capital of China, Oct. 2, 2014. Almost all scenic spots in Beijing were packed with tourists on the second day of the National Day holidays, which falls from Oct. 1 to Oct. 7. The 26 mainly monitored scenic spots of Beijing received 542,000 trips on Oct. 1, up 32.8 percent over the same day of last year. [Photo: Xinhua/Jin Liangkuai]

The number of tourists at 124 main scenic spots across China topped six million Friday, the third day of the seven-day National Day holiday, which began on October 1.

China National Tourism Administration says the number represents an increase of over 4 percent over last year.

Ticket revenue from those scenic spots totaled 300 million RMB on the first day, 3.9 percent less than the same day of last year. That was mainly due to the government price hike ban issued before the holiday.

Figures also show that some 790-thousand tourists visited West Lake in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, on Friday.

In Beijing, the Badaling scenic section of the Great Wall witnessed about 88 thousand tourists on Friday, about the same number as on Wednesday and Thursday -- not much of a crowded scene for such national holidays.

However, at the tombs of Terra-Cotta Warriors in Xi'an, thousands of visitors queuing outside the entrance serpentined well over a kilometer on Friday.

Some tourist complained they had waited over an hour.

The tourist peak has also brought huge pressure on cleaning staffs.

Workers in Panshan Mountain scenic spot in northern Tianjin Municipality even prepared rubbish bags for tourists, with which they could exchange for souvenirs upon leaving the scenic spot.
