China, New Zealand police to intensify cooperation

BEIJING, July 14 -- A top Chinese police officer on Monday called on China and New Zealand to step up cooperation on cross-border crime.

State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun made the call during a meeting with Anne Tolley, police minister of New Zealand.

China and New Zealand should intensify cooperation against transnational crime, including drugs, cyberspace, chasing fugitives and illegal proceeds, Guo said.

Guo said law enforcement departments should strengthen intelligence exchanges and protection for each other's citizens and institutions.

Tolley, who is in China for the second time as police minister, said she looks forward to strengthening law enforcement cooperation with China.
