The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has 743 academicians and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) has 802, according to latest figures.
The information was revealed in a statement released after Monday's biennial conference of the country's two top think tanks that advise the government and industries on key scientific and technological issues.
The title of academician is based on selection. It is a permanent and highest academic honor realized by the country in the fields of science and engineering.
According to the statement, the CAS and the CAE have 71 and 42 foreign academicians respectively.
