RAMALLAH, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Al-Malki said that there is a clear consensus among the Arabs to take the relationship with China further and do whatever is needed to develop ties with China in all aspects.

In an exclusive interview with Xinhua on Monday, the minister said that his country is going to use the opportunity of the 6th Ministerial Meeting of China-Arab Cooperation Forum, which is going to be held on June 5 in China, to improve the relationship between Arab nations and China.

"It's a forum to look into the relationship from all aspects, not only political but also in the cooperation level, in terms of economic relations and how this has been developed over the years, " Al-Malki said.

The minister said great progress has been made and greater attention has been given to ties between China and the Arab world in the past 10 years.

"That's why there is an understanding that we should overcome any hurdle that is being put in the way for improving the relationship between the collective Arab nations and China," Al- Malki said.

The China-Arab Cooperation Forum was initiated in 2004 to serve as a platform for exchanging views between China and Arab nations and promoting their mutually beneficial cooperation in politics, economy and trade, culture, technology and international affairs.

The ministerial meeting, which will be participated by the Arab League (AL) secretary general and foreign ministers of China and all AL members, is the permanent mechanism of the forum and convenes every other year, with the option of extraordinary sessions when necessary.

On the priorities of China-Arab cooperation, Al-Malki listed joint ventures, joint projects, exchanging experiences, and technology transfer.

"These are the aspects where the Arabs and China are looking at, trying to complement with others in that sense," he said.

The Palestinian minister stressed the necessity for Arab countries to diversify their economy in order to stay strong in the upcoming decades, and that Chinese expertise and technology can help in such an endeavor.

"This is really the added-value to the relationship between China and the Arab world when it comes to this," he said. "The Arabs see such a forum as an important venue for them to learn from the success stories... in China, and also to benefit from this model that is really leading China and the world economy."

On the Palestinian-Israeli peace process, the minister said the Palestinians expect China to help create momentum for peace when the main peace players have failed to resolve the prolonged conflict.

The latest round of Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, brokered by the United States, ended in late April without achieving any tangible progress due to grave differences between the sides.

"Maybe an idea, an initiative should really come from China in order to promote the process and to take the parties a little bit further," Al-Malki said.
