International Entrepreneurs Flex Same Gene at Fortune Forum Both Chinese and international entrepreneurs attending the '99 Fortune Global Forum Wednesday showed that they have the same gene no matter whether they are good citizens in a fledging market economy or the richest fellow working for others in the world. Speaking at a global perspectives session on "Entrepreneurship" of the Forum, Chairman of China's New Hope Group Liu Yonghao said that the forum provides a rare opportunity for Chinese entrepreneurs to learn from the elite in the international business circles. He said that as a private business owner in China, he has to rely on strategic farsightedness and a good mind to steer his company to success in a market system that is yet to be perfected. "Therefore I seize every opportunity to learn from the experience and lessons of global companies by going to many international business meetings such as the Fortune Global Forum," he said. Ted Turner, vice-chairman of Time Warner Inc., told an enlivened audience at the session that he has become "the richest person who ever worked for someone else" in the world since he had his company taken up by Time. Noting that the move was aimed to take in large amount of capital to his company, he said that multinational companies should invest their money in the most effective way. He said that his annual donation of one billion US dollars to the United Nations is to "invest in the future of mankind." Jerry Yang, co-founder of YAHOO!, also told the audience about his experience in setting up the business at the session, saying that the success of a company depends on its capability of opening up new businesses before competitors do the same. The forum sponsored by Fortune magazine of Time Warner Inc. has attracted over 500 Chinese and international entrepreneurs to participate, including heads of 60 of the Fortune top 500 companies in the world. Sources with Time Warner said that the meeting has been successful. Fortune Managing Editor John Huey said at Wednesday's session that entrepreneurs around the world "have the same DNA" wherever they come from. (Xinhua) |
