World Milosevic Re-elected as SPS President

Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic was re-elected as president of the Socialist Party on February 17, which was the forth time that he was elected as president of SPS since it was founded in 1990.

Milosevic addressed the fourth congress of the party, ushering in a decade which saw the bloody breakup of the former Yugoslav federation.

He told his Socialist Party that it was successfully leading the country in a struggle for survival. "In those 10 years, the SPS has led our people in a struggle for survival, freedom and independence and has succeeded in persevering in that struggle and coming out the winner," Milosevic said in his opening address.
